If You Don’t Make Changes, You’ll Never Change: Why Resistance Is Blocking Your Healing

Have you been doing everything right but still feel stuck in your healing journey?

Whether you're navigating infertility, reproductive health issues, or any chronic illness, it’s incredibly frustrating when you've changed your diet, seen specialists, tried supplements, and yet… nothing shifts.

If that sounds like you, this post is here to offer a new perspective—one that might just unlock the next phase of your healing.

The Hard Truth: If You Don’t Make Changes, You’ll Never Change

Let’s start with this core truth:

Whatever illness or imbalance you're facing was created in the environment of your current lifestyle, habits, mindset, and emotions.

That means if nothing in that environment changes, your symptoms won’t either.

This isn’t about blame. It’s about responsibility. Your symptoms didn’t appear randomly or because you were “unlucky.” They came from somewhere—and if you want to truly heal, you have to make the changes your body is asking for.

Healing Doesn’t Happen Through Outsourcing Alone

So many of us look to experts to “fix us”—naturopaths, acupuncturists, specialists. And while support is essential, no one can heal you but you.

You are responsible for:

  • What you eat

  • How you move

  • How you think

  • What you believe

  • And how you care for yourself daily

Support is powerful, but transformation comes from within.

My Story: From Resistance to Results

When I was trying to get pregnant with my first child, it took nearly two years. But with my second child? Just two months—despite being older.

The difference? I made changes I had resisted for years:

  • I stopped fighting the idea of eating red meat and began nourishing my body more intentionally.

  • I shifted from intense workouts to gentle, restorative movement.

  • I examined where I was pushing too hard and not resting enough.

It wasn’t just about what I added—it was about what I finally let go of.

What Resistance Looks Like in Real Life

Here are some common forms of resistance I see in my practice:

☕ Coffee

You “need” it. It’s part of your routine. But it may be the reason you can’t sleep or why your anxiety is elevated. Even morning coffee can affect your nervous system long after it’s gone.

❄️ Cold plunges & high-intensity exercise

They feel good—but they’re often depleting. They require your body to use vital reproductive resources (like Yin and blood) to recover. Over time, this drains your fertility potential.

🥗 Cold, raw foods

Smoothies and salads may be popular in wellness culture, but they can weaken your digestion if overused. Your body needs warmth to build and assimilate nutrients.

💊 Medications

If you’re on long-term meds and experiencing side effects (like headaches or fatigue), they may be contributing to your symptoms—even if it’s taken months or years to show up.

💼 Unfulfilling careers or toxic environments

Sometimes, the biggest resistance is emotional. Staying in a job or relationship that doesn’t feel aligned—due to fear, guilt, or financial insecurity—can silently drain your energy and worsen your symptoms.

You’re Not Lazy. You’re Stuck in a Pattern.

Resistance often shows up as:

  • “That can’t be the issue.”

  • “But I’ve always done it this way.”

  • “It doesn’t feel that bad.”

  • “I don’t have the energy to make that change.”

Sound familiar? That’s your subconscious protecting you. But true healing begins when you gently challenge these beliefs.

Try This: Journal Through the Resistance

Ask yourself:

  • What is the one thing I know I need to change but haven’t?

  • What beliefs keep me from making that change?

  • What am I afraid of if I let go of this habit/pattern/person/job?

This kind of self-inquiry is a powerful first step in moving through emotional and physical blocks.

Newton’s Third Law... and Your Body

In physics, Newton’s third law says: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Chinese medicine applies this to the body. Every choice you make has a direct energetic consequence:

  • Cold food → your body expends heat → weak digestion

  • Hot/spicy food → internal heat → dampness + inflammation

  • Rest → energy creation

  • Stress → depletion of reproductive hormones

Once you understand this principle, it’s easier to see how daily habits shape your internal landscape.

The One Thing Holding You Back May Be the One Thing You’re Resisting

That one food.
That one conversation.
That one truth you’re avoiding.
That one area of life that feels off.

It’s time to look there.

Final Thoughts: Healing Starts With You

If you’ve been stuck for months—or even years—ask yourself:

  • What am I not willing to look at?

  • What have I convinced myself “isn’t the problem”?

  • What’s the small change I can start with today?

And remember: You don’t have to do it alone.

I believe in support. I believe in community. I believe in expert care. And I also believe in you.
